Prodigy is a line of products from Logitech. You have the Logitech G231 headset, the Logitech G403 Prodigy Wireless mouse, and the G213 Prodigy keyboard. In this article, we are going to test and give our opinion on the Logitech G213 Prodigy mechanical keyboard. This keyboard in the Prodigy category is available on the net and in particular on Amazon for the price of 40$. If you are looking for other models, we advise you to see our comparison of the best mechanical keyboards for gamers!
So here we are at the time of unboxing. The box is particularly thin and contains the keyboard, the user manual, and the warranty note. The G213 Prodigy measures 21.8 x 45.2 x 3.3 centimeters for 1.1 kg.The keyboard has a total of 104 keys. The keyboard is completely made of plastic. But the finish is quite correct. The touch is pleasant and we have no complaints about it.

The product is well finished with all the know-how of Logitech. We like the grainy coating that leaves few fingerprints to the touch. On the other hand, the shiny black edges are subject to tactile marks and dust. We notice a slight lack of rigidity in the middle of the keyboard. It is felt when we press keys located in the middle of the keyboard. Nothing really serious but more robustness would have been more appreciated.
Below the keyboard, we notice 2 pads and 3 wide bands ensuring good adhesion to slippery surfaces such as glass or metal. The feet allow two possible inclinations: 32 mm and 45 mm. As for the cable used, it is stressed and is quite sturdy.
The Logitech G213 Prodigy keyboard comes in a sober and modern design with its RGB backlights. It has an integrated wrist rest. The backlighting of the keyboard is divided into 5 distinct zones and the color of each can be personalized at will among the 16.8 million colors available.
So it’s better than the K55 Corsair keyboard which only has 3 RGB zones. On the other hand, if you want a keyboard with a customizable backlighting key by key, you can opt for the Logitech G513 keyboard. The latter is also equipped with a detachable wrist rest.
The backlight brightness is not adjustable on the Logitech G213 keyboard. The medium intensity brightness was chosen by Logitech. It does not dazzle the eyes in the dark and is noticeable during the day. One of the special features of the Logitech G213 Prodigy is the fact that it is resistant to splashing water.
This keyboard remains operational after a splash of liquid of 60 ml. You will have no problem if you accidentally spilt your coffee or tea on your G213 keyboard.
The G213 keyboard is appreciated by its multimedia keys which allow you to directly control your audio streams while playing. This keyboard does not however have a wheel for audio volume, only the + and – buttons are available. If you want to customize a bit more, you can do that through Logitech’s Video Game Assistant software. The keyboard does not have a built-in USB port or additional audio jack.
Configurations of the Logitech G213 Prodigy Keyboard
The Logitech G213 Prodigy keyboard is known for its ultra-sensitive rubber domed keys, with a response rate of 2 ms. Each of the keys is responsive and offers an optimal tactile response. These domed keys have significantly lower performance than mechanical keyboards.
They are on the other hand quieter and are very pleasant to the touch. The keys are placed at 4mm height and each key requires a strike force of 50g to activate. This keyboard does not have additional gaming keys and does not have dedicated buttons for gaming macros.
However, it has a button that activates gaming mode. The latter is used to inhibit certain key combinations to be avoided during a game session. Another button is used to turn the backlighting system on and off. The G213 keyboard incorporates anti-ghosting technology that allows you to press more than 6 keys at a time. This technology is really important for great gamers. This makes it possible to carry out combos or special orders.
If you want a good gaming mouse with this keyboard, we recommend the Logitech MX Master 3 Advanced Mouse with its 7 customizable buttons or the Logitech G915 Lightspeed mouse which has RGB backlighting. If you are looking for a keyboard with a mouse integrated into the same device, you can choose the Logitech K400 Plus keyboard.
Light sync technology supported with this Logitech G213 keyboard provides a dynamic lighting system based on your gaming or audio stream. You can thus have a more immersive lighting game. With Lightsync, you can configure automatic effects controlled by your game: the lighting will react according to the events that occur: explosion, collision, enemy approaching etc.
With Lightsync, you can synchronize the light effects on all your devices: mouse, keyboard, speaker, coolers etc. You can do this using Logitech’s Video Game Assistant software. You can also assign predefined effects: fixed, colour wave, cycle and more. Other features are accessible through this intuitive and easy to use the software.
Logitech Video Game Assistant software lets you customize the backlight. It also allows you to deactivate certain key combinations. It can disable for example the keys Alt + F4, Alt + Tab etc. in order to avoid accidentally leaving the game in the middle of the action.
In the Logitech Video Game Assistant software, you can also configure macro keys. You can therefore register successions of orders. This allows you to quickly perform essential gestures such as squatting, healing, rushing into the heap etc. in order to get ahead of your opponents.
This software can also display a keyboard heat map. You will thus be informed about the most used keys and you can take the necessary precautions to prolong their lifespan. With this software, you can also save game or software profiles to function keys F1 to F2.
Thus, once the relevant key is activated, the saved profile can be used immediately on the G213 Prodigy keypad. Logitech’s Assistant software for video games is available for free download from the Swiss manufacturer’s website.
